NetScreen’s new Deep Inspection firewall will provide advanced security for key vulnerability points throughout the network, including telecommuter, branch-office and central-site locations.
NetScreen’s Deep Inspection firewall, which has intrinsic application-level intrusion prevention capabilities, complements proven stateful firewall functionality to significantly strengthen the security posture of an organization. Further, when coupled with NetScreen’s newest management platform, an enterprise can increase management efficiency and reduce overhead and operating costs.
“Development of the NetScreen Deep Inspection firewall and NetScreen-Security Manager 2004 demonstrates our commitment to drive innovation in security solutions and make intrusion prevention a critical part of enterprise network security deployments,” said David Flynn, vice president of marketing at NetScreen. “More importantly, with this new firewall and management platform, our customers can realize greater security, more tightly integrated into their networks, while reducing operating costs.”
Deep Inspection Firewall
The robust security features and innovative intrusion prevention functionality of the NetScreen Deep Inspection firewall can provide protection against more than 250 application-level attacks and protocol deviations targeting key Internet services, such as Web, email and file transfer resources. This functionality is enabled through “deep inspection” into specific traffic for the following protocols: HTTP, SMTP, IMAP, POP, FTP, and DNS, with additional protocol support planned in future releases.
Unlike competing solutions, customers have the option of configuring the deep inspection protection on a per-policy basis for one, several or all supported protocols. The Deep Inspection firewall also provides the flexibility to detect and/or prevent application-level attacks as a customer deems appropriate.
The Deep Inspection firewall builds upon the stateful firewall, VPN, denial of service protection and traffic management capabilities currently available in NetScreen’s integrated firewall/VPN appliances and systems to provide advanced network- and application-level protection. NetScreen devices with Deep Inspection firewall are ideal Internet gateway solutions for deployment at small, remote, branch and/or regional offices where IT resources are often limited and best-in-breed security functionality, logically integrated into a single device and accompanied by central management, can provide incremental security and cost of ownership benefits.
The NetScreen Deep Inspection firewall will be delivered via ScreenOS version 5.0, the underlying operating system for NetScreen’s integrated firewall/VPN appliances and systems. ScreenOS version 5.0 is planned to be available in November for the NetScreen-5GT, -5XT, -25, -204, -208, and -500, and planned to be available for NetScreen-5200 and -5400 systems in December. NetScreen-Security Manager 2004 is planned to be available in December. Both will be offered as upgrades for current customers with an existing NetScreen support contract.
